Y’all know I have a sweet tooth but you may be surprised to know my favorite dessert isn’t chocolate or fried or even a baked treat but it’s classic Southern Bananas Foster! It is sweet and creamy and anytime I see it on a menu I have to order it! Even better, it’s simple to make at home too so I thought I would share my recipe for Bananas Foster today in honor of Mardi Gras and Fat Tuesday, since the recipe originated in New Orleans and is a Cajun favorite.
Happy Mardi Gras!

Just a few simple ingredients are all you need to make this tasty Cajun dessert!
For the bananas: peel, cut in half, and then cut in half again lengthwise.
Add 1/2 cup brown sugar and stir until melted and bubbly.
Add rum then carefully light the liquid to flambe. Cook until fire is extinguished
and rum is cooked down.
Delicious, sweet bananas and sauce and ready to add to ice cream!
Usually vanilla ice cream is served with Bananas Foster but in honor of Fat Tuesday I used festive Mardi Gras King Cake Ice Cream by Blue Bell.
This weekend my friends and I had a fun Girl’s Night Out which included shopping, hair and makeup, and dinner at my favorite Cajun restaurant, Copelands of New Orleans.
Thanks to Jane Iredale Makeup for a fantastic day!
I always order their Bananas Foster for dessert! Yum!
We celebrated Mardi Gras this year in Lake Charles at the Children’s Parade.
Ava loved the parade and had a bag full of loot by the end including beads, candy, and stuffed animals! My mom was visiting so she enjoyed the parade with us. What a great time we had!
Ava with her Mama and Oba enjoying the parade.
Ava enjoying her treats- she caught an ice pop and a Moonpie!
3 generations! My mom, Ava, and me!
I even made my first King Cake this year! Not so pretty but it sure tasted good 🙂
Happy Fat Tuesday!
